Are Dead People Watching Us?

Are dead people watching us? Should we be afraid of them? Knowledge is power that lights up the darkness within us, while the truth sets us free and gives us freedom from the torment of fear and confusion. The topic about the state of deceased people is so controversial; especially that All Soul’s Day for the year 2010 is coming up. In this regard, I will not answer this question through my own human wisdom and understanding. Instead, I will let the Holy Scriptures give us the answer on the question… do dead people watch us, think about us and speak with us?
The Holy Bible says that people who have already passed away know nothing and do nothing:
Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 (NIV)
For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten. Their love, their hate and their jealousy have long since vanished; never again will they have a part in anything that happens under the sun.
Ecclesiastes 9:10 (NIV)
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.
They go down to silence:
Psalm 115:17 (NIV)
It is not the dead who praise the LORD, those who go down to silence;
When a person dies, on that very day, their thoughts come to nothing.
Psalm 146:4 (NIV)
When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;
on that very day their plans come to nothing.
His flesh returns to the ground, and his spirit returns to God.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 (NIV)
and the dust returns to the ground it came from,
and the spirit returns to God who gave it.
Deceased people are like people who are asleep. If you are sleeping, you don’t know anything, do anything nor hear anything until you become awake.
Psalm 13:3 (NIV)
Look on me and answer, O LORD my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death;
1 Kings 2:10 (NIV)
Then David rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David.
John 11:11-13 (NIV)
After he had said this, he went on to tell them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.”
His disciples replied, “Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better.” Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep.
They will sleep until the Day of Resurrection:
1 Thessalonians 4:14 (NIV)
We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
Daniel 12:2 (NIV)
Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (NIV)
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
John 5:28-29 (NIV)
“Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out—those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned.
So who are those spirits that impersonate the dead people?
Revelation 16:14 (NIV)
They are spirits of demons performing miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.
2 Corinthians 11:14-15 (NIV)
And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.
But how about the mediums and spiritists that tell us they can talk with the dead?
Leviticus 19:31 (NIV)
Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.
Deuteronomy 18:10-12 (NIV)
Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you.
I hope you’ve got answers from the question about dead people. Again, they are not my own words or my own wisdom – they are the Words of God.

Hi Vic!
I’m 73 years old and have received the grandest dream of my life. A wife and family I love and knowing they love me. My greatest joy in life is being with them which I am now after traveling the world for many years to develop financial resources for Christion Mission work.
If you were my son I would be extremely proud of you as I am as your elder brother in Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. With whatever authority our Father allows me to declare I bless you in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Your commitment to using only scripture to answer questions is “amazing wisdom” that gives me great confidence in future Christian world leaders the Lord is raising up. I am not speaking of denominational leaders. I am speaking of those who lead from their commitment to understand the scripture and live and share it as you do.
I was attracted to “Are dead people watching us?” because one of my son-in-laws and I were just discussing “the great cloud of witness” that surrounds us wondering out loud if that is metaphorical or literal. Additionally, after finding your amazingwisdom.com I got to thinking about the two criminals dying on their crosses on each side of Jesus Christ our Lord when jesus spoke to one and essentially said that today he would be with Jesus in paradise.
I do not send these questions to challenge or rebuke you. I send them to listen to your amazing entreprenurial mind the Lord has given you to see what the scripture says about those issues, i.e. the great crowd of witnesses that surround us and the “good” thief on the cross.
Choose to have a good day! The best is yet to come!

Hello,
I”d like to have a conversation with you, via email, if you don’t mind.
I am 56 years old, have been in church all my life, have “walked the isle” twice….still don’t feel saved. I am one of the worlds worst sinners. I’d like some instruction.
Blessings!
