How to have a long life?
It is impossible for our Almighty God to lie. That’s why He always fulfills His promises to us.
Hebrews 6:17-18 (NKJV)
Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
One of His great promises is long life. God will prolong our lives if we will keep on obeying His commandments and instructions. All of God’s commandments promote and preserve love, wisdom, justice, understanding and self-discipline. These virtues also preserve, strengthen and lengthen our lives on Earth. Furthermore, His commandments keep us away from sins and vices. These transgressions include uncontrolled wrath, pride, drunkenness, gluttony, adultery and laziness which contaminate and weaken our body and spirit. Thus, the fear of God and obedience of His Words give us longevity.
Proverbs 3:1-2 (NKJV)
My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; For length of days and long life And peace they will add to you.
Deuteronomy 6:1-2 (NKJV)
“Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the LORD your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, that you may fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged.
Deuteronomy 32:45-47 (NKJV)
Moses finished speaking all these words to all Israel, and he said to them: “Set your hearts on all the words which I testify among you today, which you shall command your children to be careful to observe—all the words of this law. For it is not a futile thing for you, because it is your life, and by this word you shall prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess.”
God also made a promise to prolong the life of people who will honor their parents. Take note that “to honor” is “not to dishonor” or “not to disgrace”. By following God’s teachings and commandments and by becoming a great and kind-hearted son or a daughter, we can make our parents honored.
Ephesians 6:1-3 (NKJV)
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.
