How to identify a false prophet? A prophet is one who delivers a prophecy. A prophecy is a message from God communicated to a prophet to be communicated to the people. It can be an interpretation, revelation or prediction of events or something to happen.
To know a false prophet, we simply need to determine if all his prophecies come true. If a prophet’s prediction will not happen, then that prophet is a false prophet.
Deuteronomy 18:21-22 (NKJV)
And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’— when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.
If a prophet has prophesized something but it did not happen – that prophet is not from God. Many spiritual leaders today are regularly making prophecies. That’s why we should always be observant on them. If your spiritual leader, who claims to be a true prophet, prophesized you that you will get married on July 2010, but the date passes by and the prediction have not come into reality, then your spiritual leader is a false prophet. Many false prophets in the past even predicted the exact date of the end of the world. However they all have failed in their own fallacies. They even failed to predict the weather, the time the rain will fall and the time the sun will shine. So do not be afraid, rather, watch out on them!
