How to love God? God is righteous, just, generous, true, merciful and loving. He is our creator and the giver of our lives. For these, it is a great thing to love God. But how can we love Him? How can we assure that we are loving God the way He wants us to love Him. Let’s find out what God told us in loving Him.
This is what He said in the Holy Scriptures:
John 14:15 (New International Version)
“If you love me, you will obey what I command.
John 14:15 (New King James Version)
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.
We must love God with all our heart, all our mind, all our strength, all our life and all our soul. We should also love our neighbors.
Mark 12:30-31 (New King James Version)
And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Matthew 22:37-40 (New King James Version)
Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
Luke 10:27 (New King James Version)
So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’”
We must not hate our neighbors, whom are our brothers.
1 John 4:20 (New King James Version)
If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
We must always keep and treasure the Words and commands of God in ourselves and in our hearts.
Proverbs 7:1-3 (New King James Version)
My son, keep my words,
And treasure my commands within you.
Keep my commands and live,
And my law as the apple of your eye.
Bind them on your fingers;
Write them on the tablet of your heart.
Proverbs 3:1-3 (New King James Version)
My son, do not forget my law,
But let your heart keep my commands;
For length of days and long life
And peace they will add to you.
Let not mercy and truth forsake you;
Bind them around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart,
Now if we really want to love God, we must start knowing those commandments which God wants us to be kept and obeyed. We can read and know them in the Holy Scriptures, where God’s Words and commandments are written through the Prophets and the Apostles. We must not only love God through our mouth, our emotions, our thoughts – but we must also love Him with all our strengths, all our life, all our soul and all our actions. So let’s get that Holy Bible and let’s start reading and obeying now.
