How to Understand the Holy Bible?
How to understand the Holy Bible?
Many people read the Holy Bible, but only few of them understand it. Why? It’s because only few of them put what they have read into practice. That is my quick answer. But to elaborate it further, I will ask this question… what is the opposite of understanding? Isn’t it confusion? Confusion and inability to understand the Bible exist when there is a conflict of what we read or what we have known from what we do. The Bible offers us great wisdom and understanding. Wisdom starts when we fear the Lord and understanding when we depart from evil. In other words, we will not understand the Bible if we are still doing what is wrong and evil. Therefore, to understand it, we must follow God’s commandments. We must accept and obey what is truly written.
Job 28:28 (NKJV)
And to man He said,
‘ Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom,
And to depart from evil is understanding.’”
Psalm 111:10 (NKJV)
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
A good understanding have all those who do His commandments.
His praise endures forever.
Proverbs 9:10 (NKJV)
“ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
We must practice what are written in the Holy Scriptures so that they can be well established in our hearts and souls.
Matthew 7:24-27 (NKJV)
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
Moreover, to make sure that we will know the Words of God and receive His Spirit, we must follow His corrections.
Proverbs 1:23 (NKJV)
Turn at my rebuke;
Surely I will pour out my spirit on you;
I will make my words known to you.
Now therefore I conclude that if we want to understand the Bible, we must read and know the teachings, instructions and commandments of God – then we must keep on obeying and practicing them. Understanding the Words of God is impossible for the people who keep on sinning – who keep on committing lies, adultery, drunkenness, gluttony, idolatry and other sins that displease Him. To understand the Words of God we need faith – a faith that is manifested by our actions. As it is written – faith without works is dead.
James 2:14-17 (NKJV)
What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Right to the point. So many of us have knowledge, but no wisdom, because we know what to do, but don’t follow through and do what we know we should do.
BTW, did you go to Bible school and have some ministry background? Your knowledge in Bible and your wisdom shown in your words are amazing.

Hello,
Thanks a lot.
I did not study theology (the study of God), did not go to Bible school, and didn’t have ministry background. I simply study the Bible directly, and study God directly. I also believe I just claim my gift. I know that we all have gifts, but we all don’t claim it. I claimed mine by approaching, receiving and obeying God. BTW, I also use a Bible software that helped me a lot on my study. It’s e-sword and you can download it free over the Internet. Just Google the word e-sword to find their site. Also, the secret to understand the Bible is found on Proverbs 1:23 (just remember it like 1,2,3). Thank you so much Qin.
Vic,
Thanks for the info. You are an inspiration. I don’t read the Word nearly enough and have to change that.
