What kind of clothes or clothing does God wants us to wear?

It is important for us to know what the Lord wants us to wear. This is because God has given us commandments on what clothes we must putted on. As we are wearing clothes that are not in accordance to His commands, we are sinning by disobeying Him. Therefore, let us always be obedient and please the Lord. Let’s find out what God wants us to wear and not to wear.

We must wear the right clothing according to our gender.

Deuteronomy 22:5 (NIV)
A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this.

Women must dress in modesty and decency.

1 Timothy 2:9-10 (NIV)
I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.

1 Peter 3:3 (NIV)
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes.

This is because a woman who clothes herself with tempting dresses will seduce and will make men commit adultery in their hearts. As a woman, do you want to become an instrument of adultery? It is best to follow God’s commandments.

Matthew 5:28 (NIV)
But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

In the book of Torah, God has given a law not to wear clothes which is a combination of wool and linen. According to some scientific studies, 100% linen clothes benefits human health.

Deuteronomy 22:11 (NI V)
Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together.

Leviticus 19:19 (NIV)
” ‘Keep my decrees.
” ‘Do not mate different kinds of animals.
” ‘Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed.
” ‘Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material.

Finally, God wants us to be spiritual rather than be material. That is why He discouraged us from wearing expensive clothes and dresses that ruin our humility and decency. Instead, He wants us to clothe ourselves with humility, compassion, kindness, gentleness and patience – with love that binds all of these in perfect unity.

1 Peter 5:5 (NIV)
Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,
“God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble.”

Colossians 3:12-14 (NIV)
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

  1. I think that it’s not in the kind of clothes, it’s on what your heart says.

    Thanks for visiting.
However, evil can dwell on a person’s heart who doesn’t fear God. And if he/she will follow the kind of clothes his/her heart says – he/she may end up wearing clothes according to evil. You may read the following passage:

Matthew 15:19 “For it is out of the heart that evil thoughts come, as well as murder, adultery, sexual immorality, stealing, false testimony, and slander.”

Mark 7:21 “For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil thoughts come, as well as sexual immorality, stealing, murder,”

  3. Twin-Skies says:

If my sister decides to wear jeans and a denim jacket, wouldn’t that technically be her wearing men’s clothes?

  4. Vic says:

There are jeans for men and jeans for women.

  5. Ezra says:

Accept Christ and be set free… enter into him as he has entered into the Father and follow him, do you not remember what Christ has said in Matthew 6:25?

  6. Vic says:

Here is the verse. It teach us to be more spiritual than material.

    Matthew 6:25 (NIV)
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?
